The iconic Malecón is Havana’s soul. It is where the good and bad linger, creating a mystifying and emotional four-mile stretch of coastline. Years of neglect and sea spray have left many of the beautiful, pastel-colored buildings pale and crumbling. The man in the photo lives in one of these aged and lonely buildings; however, with the chunks of falling concrete annoying him, he has chosen a safer residence on the rocks below the seawall. Perceiving this scene in the last moments of daylight captures the mood of the neighborhood, a fading moment in time.
